Love 3
-- A Tale of Defoliants
Narcissus: a man who loves only himself.
Echo: a woman who loves only him.
He says:
Why do you love me?
Echo repeats:
Love me.
He says:
Please don't come near me!
She says:
Come near me!
Narcissus: a man who knows what he means.
Echo: a woman who (mistakenly) repeats what he says.
Every love contains the tongue's defoliant.
A liquid that makes the tongue curl up accompanies each kiss.
(Korean Poem by Kim Seung-Hee on Walking on a Washing Line: Poems of Kim Seung-Hee. 2011. p. 193.)
